—Silk Design Class

Karen Fountain has offered to have a “Free” Silk Design Class to welcome Autumn.

There has been a request from some who would like to have participated in the prior classes but are allergic to fresh flowers. This is one everyone can join!

She will be guiding our DWO residents to make Fall Wreaths.

This class will be a bit different as you will gather the design elements, flowers and supplies so that they will work with your décor. So now is the perfect time to start planning and buying the items you’d like to use in your wreath as the stores are in the process of transitioning to Autumn, so watch for the sales at Hobby Lobby and Michaels!

The class will be September 15th so sign up on the Hub and reserve your spot. Below is a list of the supplies and items to help guide you.

Fall Wreath Making Class

Suggested materials to purchase to make your wreath

Recommend sizes 18-24” wreath for your front door.

Choose from a Grapevine, Styrofoam or Straw wreath

If you prefer an indoor wreath 12-20” is nice for walls or indoor doors.

Design elements recommended:

Flowers—Choose colors that complement your door or décor. You will need about 50-60 blooms for a fully covered wreath. Look for bunches that have a variety of bloom sizes. If you choose single stems, make sure you buy 5—6 larger, 15-20 medium blooms and 20-30 smaller blooms.

Greenery—Choose a few stems of greenery to help accent your design

Fun Autumn Touches—Look for Fall Leaves, Acorns, Pumpkins, or other fun autumn touches to add to your wreath.

Ribbon—If you would like your wreath to have a bow, make sure you buy at least six (6) yards of ribbon.

Other Items to bring to class if available:

Wire Cutters, Scissors, Glue gun, Tacky Glue or Craft glue.

Remember to have fun when shopping. Watch as the sales to pop up at Hobby Lobby and Michaels. In addition, look at the Dollar Tree or other discount stores.Keep your receipts just in case you don’t use all the items and would like to return them. Additional supplies will be available to help you make your wreaths. Karen will also help make bows for those who need assistance with that as well.
