Overview

Zócalo Fish Market & Grill is one of Haines City’s most distinctive culinary destinations—a hybrid fresh seafood marketLatin-Caribbean restaurant, and boutique grocery created by the Tejada family. Opened in April 2021, it blends pristine seafood, bold flavors, and a polished dining atmosphere that has quickly made it a local favorite.

History

The Zócalo story spans more than 40 years and two states:

  • 1970s – New York City: Gabriel and Esperanza Tejada build a life operating bodegas, supermarkets, and small shops.

  • 2002 – Move to Haines City: Seeking a healthier lifestyle, the family opens a small general store called El Zócalo, serving the local migrant community.

  • 2010 – Expansion: The business grows into a 16,000-sq-ft supermarket with a butcher shop, bakery, produce, dry goods, and a restaurant.

  • 2019–2021 – New Vision: The family redevelops their original property into Zócalo Fish Market Plaza, culminating in the opening of the Fish Market & Grill.

The restaurant reflects decades of family entrepreneurship, community connection, and a commitment to fresh, high-quality food.
