About

The JOHNSON FAMILY Story

On behalf of the entire Johnson Family, we would like to personally extend an invite be our guest.

Everyday we strive to provide a warm atmosphere, filled with Southern Hospitality.

We look forward to serving you.

BEGINNINGS

Elton and Evelyn Johnson established a Plant City Tradition of FAMILY DINING & SOUTHERN HOSPITALITY in 1954. It began with a gas station where Evelyn would cook family meals for her husband and children. It wasn't long before friends and passers-by would show up to enjoy her SOUTHERN COOKIN' and GENEROUS HOSPITALITY. Eventually, with the help of Aunt Evie and Aunt Pearlie in the kitchen, the gas station was converted to the first Johnson's Restaurant.

TRADITIONS

Fred and his wife, Tammy carried forward the same TRADITIONS in 1998, opening the first Fred's Market Restaurant on site at the State Farmer's Market resulting in fresh produce at their fingertips. So began the legacy of SLOW FOOD, FAST. In 2003, Grandpa's BBQ recipes were revived by grandson Owen Johnson, who perfected the rubs and serves up authentic sauces at Johnson Barbeque next door in Plant City.

LEGACY

Today the LEGACY continues of SERVIN' IT UP SOUTHERN with their sons, Owen and Michael Johnson. Their strong emphasis on FAMILY HERITAGE, VALUES and good ole' SOUTHERN CUISINE has contributed to making each Fred's Market Restaurant and Johnson Barbeque a place where friends, family and community can come together and connect, enjoying our food cooked slow and served fast.

TODAY

We thank you for choosing Fred's Market Restaurant and hope you and your family ENJOY our family's dishes, because it is our passion to serve you fresh, healthy and great tasting meals!

Best Regards,
